As I’ve hunkered down a bit more the last month or so, I’ve been cooking new things, and more often. Wanting a new challenge, and adoring carbs, I asked around for everyone’s favorite homemade bread recipe. I got lots of responses, and even the gift of The Laurel’s Kitchen Bread Book, what I hear to be the Bible of bread-making.
Sometimes – for me, anyway – homemade loaf bread is only best when fresh out of the oven, with huge dollops of butter. After that, it really isn’t “sandwich material”, or good for regular use. It’s too dense and crumbly. It’s heavy… But I’m over being such a grinch about it. So today I’m trying my hand at a loaf of Lynnette’s favorite homemade recipe. Tomorrow I’ll try another, less “healthy” option, and continue down the path until I find one that would be most suitable for the transition of my closed-minded thoughts on home baked bread.
I’ve been making yogurt every day again , too, incubating it in my Excalibur. I think it’d be fun to make a yogurt-bread (no yeast), and am going to revive my sourdough for some fun as well. Limitless possibilities.
Alright, it’s official. I’m in love. Not too dense. Not crumbly. Great hot and cold. Easy to make. Looks beautiful. Easy to cut. Rather healthy. Doing this again tomorrow. Maybe we’ll never try another…

Looks good, try the Tassajara Bread Book, my bible of bread making back in the seventies :-)….
